The Wonston Arms

Remarkable achievement to have resuscitated the local pub and turned it into an example for the rest of the country. Congratulations. May your patrons be loyal – you have treated them well.

Congratulations on your achievement Matt.

From one ‘Local’ to another, it’s great to see you getting the recognition you obviously deserve. At ‘The Local’ in Markyate (a village in Hertfordshire with real coaching heritage, being on the original Watling Street), we created our MicroPub in 2016 by converting an old estate agency on the High Street. No gimmicks, no loud music, no television screens or pool tables, no keg lager or vodka shots, just superb local cask ales (plus ciders, wines and now premium gins)….. and friends.

Build it and they will come (‘a local, like they used to be’), and they did! If I’m down there I’ll pop in to drink your health, wealth (?!) and happiness, if you can get away up here then please do the same!

Well done to you and everyone concerned at The Wonston Arms. Onwards and upwards.

All the best,

Martin

Hi the Photography club is at 8pm on the 2nd Tuesday of the month in the Wonston Arms, a number of like minded guys & girls meet up to develop their skill and knowledge base , cheers Landlord

Pete & Sharron popped in to the wonston arms on our way home. When we first arrived we absolutely loved the cosy village pub appeal, when we went inside it was definitely a wow factor from us both, as this is our kind of pub, The interior has been beautifully restored by Matt & the crew ,the log burner was a lovely welcoming focal point & was great to see it was busy,. The selection of real ale is remarkable & although I only managed a couple last night we will be returning to try the others, We also received a very warm welcome what was nice & Matt even took the time to have a chat with us, Absolutely wonderful pub keep up the good work and see you all soon.

Great place. We live in Upper Clatford near Andover so visit quite often. I understand but just a shame you couldn’t just knock out some basic food, even just lunchtimes two or three times a week. Have a word with JM!

What an amazing place. Great for a stop off, lovely way to spend an evening. The landlord has worked so very hard to provide a fantastic pub experience. We love this venue so much. Family friendly, everybody welcomed, and such an enormous effort to provide a superb outdoor space post Covid. Great beer, great gin, great wine, great atmosphere. Top pub
