The Bar

The Bar

We are a little pub, a very little little pub. This has not stopped us from growing our range that we have available as we have listened to all of you that have popped in the pub to say hello.

Cask Ales

First and foremost we are about the cask ales. The Wonston Arms has always been a great little pub since 1800, serving local cask ales to local folk.

When we resurrected the Wonston from closure, we vowed to never “take the Wonston out of the Wonston”. That meant we wanted to serve traditional cask ales from local Hampshire breweries that have had love and care from the moment the first ingredient was added to when the pint is pulled from one of our four traditional hand-pulls on the bar.

Our temperature controlled cellar-room and stringent cellar management processes mean we deliver tip top conditioned real ale to our customers.

We ripped out all the old historical pump and cellar equipment and put an entire new system in. Throughout the week we work with 4 hand-pulls and here at the Wonston we have a regular ‘stable’ of 30 or so cask ales that over the years time and again have had consistently great customer feedback. We rotate through these ales over the month, so as a regular visitor you will always see something familiar while at the same time a new seasonal beer is likely to be on to have a try.

It’s all about the Gin

We really love gin at the Best Little Pub in Hampshire. Way back in 2015 we kicked off our gin cabinet with our ‘magnificent seven’ for World Gin Day that summer. We gave Paul a call from The Winchester Distillery along with Rupert from Conker Gin down in Southbourne, Bournemouth. Both were young fledgling businesses like us and these guys taught us ever so much about the future potential of gin.

We are only just down the road from the world famous Bombay Sapphire distillery in Hampshire so a few visits and masterclasses about gin, it’s history, it’s composition, and production techniques, followed. Before long we were hooked and we slowly grew our Gin cabinet to where it is today at close to 200 gins from around world.

To complement our gin, we stock Fevertree Tonics and mixers. Our range of tonics allow you to enjoy a lovely G&T to sip on a summer’s day on our beach or on a cosy winter evening in front of the pub fire. We have lovely large gin bowl glasses as well as italian long highball glasses to suit your drinking desires.

Lush Wines

From the outset, the wife of the landlord said “if you take on this crazy bloody adventure then my only wish is you get in my favourite Spanish El Coto wines that I love drinking on those holidays that we won’t be having for a long time!” So it had to be. Happy Wife is a Happy Life. Oops, we had a bit of a problem tracking down an importer!

After much searching we found a single UK importer who agreed (phew) to help us. We held a community wine tasting night with them to agree our range of wines, some that we still have today some 4 years later. Fine testament to the locals wine tasting buds and the help of one very wine expert.

Our wine range is not huge but carefully selected and cared for, so you should not go wrong if wine is your thing… the wife of the landlord seems happy so all is good in Wonston world!
